MidlandsLAKE GREENWOOD: Crappie: Very good. Crappie action is hot in 12-15 feet of water at the forks of the Reedy and Saluda rivers, and also below the 72 Bridge in the Quarters Creek area. Drifting and spider rigging using minnows and jigs is effective. Black and chartreuse are the go-to colors. Catfish: Good to very good. Fish are scattered. Largemouth Bass: Fair. Some anglers are fishing deep while others are targeting fish staging for the spawn. Carolina rigged worms are a good choice. Striped Bass: Fair. Best action is being reported trolling deep in the area around Goat Island.LAKE WATEREE: Catfish: Good. Catfish are beginning to make their annual spawning run.LAKE MURRAY: Bream: Good to very good. Shellcracker fishing remains strong in 2-10 feet, particularly up the lake. Use red worms and cut nightcrawlers. Catfish: Good. Some fish are still deep. Striped Bass: Fair. Live bait and bucktails are both working. Lots of 18-20 inch fish continue to be caught but finding keepers is difficult. Up the river there is still good schooling activity. Free lining is working from Billy Dreher Island on up. A 17.5-pound fish was weighed in at Dooley’s, which was caught on a free-lined herring. Largemouth Bass: Fair. Fish are starting to move toward the banks, although dropping temperatures may push them back out to deeper areas. Shallow water anglers should look for the warmest areas in the backs of coves and cuts; sometimes the biggest fish are the first to move shallow. Texas-rigged worms, Carolina rigged worms, and jigs are popular choices. Crappie: Fair. Most anglers are concentrating on the Kempson’s Bridge area in 8-20 feet, and purple and yellow jigs are go-to colors. Fishing will improve once temperatures stabilize,.
