Mike Hook of Red Bank is looking forward to having a new spot to fish on the lower Saluda River.He is among anglers who cast their lines off the two boat launch ramps at the James R. Metts Landing on the south side of the river.That habit will end in a few years when a new fishing area opens at a site with steep banks too rugged for anglers to use.Fishing off the ramps requires dodging other folks toting canoes and kayaks or backing a boat on a trailer down to the water.“It’s like walking on Main Street,” Hook said. “I’ve got to be careful what I’m doing.”
